CAFC President leads team deployment to Haiti.

Just a quick note from CAFC President CFO Greg Richards on-deployment in Haiti,

Our mission here in Haiti is going very well. I have limited TEXT messaging and no e-mail service and I am working medical Ops.

We opened a second Medical Clinic yesterday in the Capital Port-Au-Prince. This means we now have two (2) clinics in operation. We now have 5 new members on our DMAT team (2 Doctors and some nurses from California) working with us.

Lots of collapsed buildings and long lines of people are everywhere. I feel very safe and the people are very appreciative of our help.

Yesterday a US Army Unit visited us at our clinic. It was really nice to see them patrolling the streets.

I will be visiting Fire Dept today and should have better intel on Fire Services. If all goes well, I will be home this weekend.

Haiti's Challenge to Emergency Responders...

For those of us who have been to Haiti we are aware that before the devistation of the Earthquake...now a week ago...the infrastructure of Haiti was clearly in need of work. Frankly, like many of our member nations, Haiti is not at the top of the economic ladder...in fact it is among the poorest nations in the Western Hemisphere.

Add to that the destruction leveled by a 7.2 earthquake and you have some massive problems. Now throw in emergency responders trying to get to the scene ... of new eme… Continue

Earth Quake hits Haiti

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (AP) — The largest earthquake ever recorded in the area rocked Haiti on Tuesday, collapsing a hospital where people screamed for help and damaging other buildings. An aid official described "total disaster and chaos."

Communications were widely disrupted, making it impossible to get a clear picture of damage as powerful aftershocks shook a desperately poor country where many buildings are flimsy. Electricity was out in some places.

Karel Zelenka, a Catholic Relief Service… Continue

Management Of Large Incidents Class

Hello All

I want to conduct a class in the region on "Management Of Large Incidents" in the region. Where would be a good location to conduct a class for 50 students and would be centeral to everyone in the region. This class would invite all types of emergency response persons such as disaster managers, firefighters, rescue workers, law enforcement and so on.

How amny of you would attend a class like that and what type of incident would be of most interest to you?

Fire Service: Public More Harmful Than Helpful

The Barbados Fire Service values the public's assistance in fighting fires but that help must come under the guidance of its officers.

Divisional Officer Randolph Cox said civilians were not allowed to take up and use any of the service's equipment.

"I can understand people's enthusiasm and that they want to assist but they have to do so under the guidance of the fire service," he said.
